Party Time '09!

Last week Wes and I were able to attend two very fun parties.

Both were ugly sweater parties. The second of which was an ugly Christmas sweater Bunco party!

Wes won the first award for ugliest Christmas sweater. (Yes, it is the same sweater as last year--- only this year, we took some lessons from our friend Jacob Bock, and added some real Christmas lights onto it).
Paul Duncan, Wes' good friend, won for just the ugliest sweater, not of holiday origins.
This was also a proud moment for Wes, because Paul actually borrowed Wes' outfit from the party before.

Thanks Holly and Spencer for such a fun party. We both had a blast!

Candy Cane Lane

Last night Wes and I joined my mama, sister Hayley and her little guy Ryan for some Christmas deliciousness!

We headed over to Logan's candy store in Ontario for their demonstration on how they make Candy Canes. It was fun. Crowded, busy, but fun and informative. Quite an experience!

My mom, Hayley, Wes and Ryan in front of the store.

When we arrived people were huddled together outside the window watching. It reminded me of the movie "The Christmas Story" when all the kids are standing in front of the toy store watching the window display.

See what I mean? These kids seriously had their noses pressed up against the glass, watching in amazement.
Well, we bi passed those suckers and went inside, where it was warm and smelled nice, and got right up close to the action.

Ryan and I watching the pot boil at over 200 degrees what would be become candy canes.

This store was darling! It was a cute little old fashioned, ma' and pa' style that I instantly fell in love with. I need to go back when it is not crowded to the brink. Best of all, they hand make all their candy canes during this season.

The owner showing off his goods. ;)

My mom even bought a warm candy cane and let me bend it myself. And, let me tell you, I am one good candy cane hooker!

Before buying an actual candy cane we got hot and fresh samples. I don't even really like candy canes, but these were pretty good.

While visions of sugar plums danced in their heads... now I have a visual of what the devil sugar plums are.

Afterward, we went over to Chaffey High School and watched the local city choir sing and the big band play.

Santa was there with his pimped out ride.

Highlight of this night was definitely NOT the Sunshine Band performance, which was a gentle reminder of why the night was free; but the Young at Heart tap dancers. Which was priceless! I am happy just sitting here thinking of them!

Just imagine a bunch of really old ladies, and 1 old man, tap dancing, dressed like toy soldiers. If that doesn't melt your heart you're a puppy puncher!

We ended the evening with hot chocolate at my parent's house. I seriously l.o.v.e. the Christmas season!

It's Here...!

Christmas time has officially arrived and I am already super tired! :)

I hate posting blog posts without photos, but my camera is M.I.A. (I think I left it at my sister's house) so I don't have any pictures of all the fun things we've done so far.

We have our house decorated, lit, and even 4 presents wrapped under the tree.

Friday we headed to the Mission Inn in Riverside for the lights, food, and fun! We ate at Simple Simon's and then had a "bucket" of delicious mini-donuts. Ahhh... my mouth waters thinking about them. (Give me a moment to re cooperate please).

Saturday we went to our friend's, the Bock's, ugly sweater Christmas party... 2 words for this... good times! It was a lot of fun! We laughed a lot, the costumes (especially Wes') were awesome, and the food... again makes my mouth wata'. Katie made the BEST apple pie I can honestly say I have ever had in my entire life! Only bummer is we got pulled over on our way there (after having a pretty yuck day to begin with)... but don't worry folks... we didn't get a ticket. We pulled out ALL of the stops. :) he he he... let's just say I am a BIG dork!

We are looking forward to tomorrow. We are going to a candy cane decorating presentation, and then to a free Christmas concert.

I am so looking forward to this week, but I supposed I should get my Christmas shopping done soon, huh?

Hopefully, I will be able to steal some pictures from some friends and get them posted.

Flashback Friday: Christmas 05

This was one of the very best Christmas's I can remember.

We spent our first Christmas together... we got married less than 2 weeks after.

New holiday traditions began. IE: pinata, food, games, and being together.

We figured out how to split holidays and both be happy. :)

And between Christmas and knowing I would be with the man I love for forever, I just can't think of a better way to feel the whole of what we call "the Christmas spirit."

Christmas Time 2005 was a great year!

My Funny Hunny!

Wes walks in tonight after putting up the Christmas lights (in only 1 hour, btw) and says:

"Well, I worked it out. And, I only got electrocuted once! Yeah!"... (said with a spectacular fist pump)!

How could I not be happy in my marriage! :) Love him.

Pet Peeve

So... I again was reminded of a pet peeve of mine during this time of year.

The use of X-Mas by people too lazy to write the word Christmas. I mean, do people realize they are taking CHRIST out of the equation?

Please, don't do it out of sheer laziness! Write it out... seriously, it's not that hard.

Good Reads

So... I haven't read a really good book for a long time. You know, the kind that keeps you up all night, even when you know you need to sleep.

Well... I found one!

The Hunger Games.

Ok, so maybe in terms of language and writing it was just good. But, it was so adventurous, and the action never stopped. I just had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen. It had all the components to keep me entertained. Action, romance, intrigue, suspense, the whole big brother element, you name it!

So, anyone looking for a fun, good book, pick it up and give it a try.

But, don't take my word for it... da da duh! (imagine the Reading Rainbow theme here)

Turkey Day '09

So, for Thanksgiving, as I mentioned in a previous post, we headed up to St. George to be with Wes' extended family. It is always a lot of fun, because we see cousins, aunts, and uncles that we don't see often there. Plus, it is a HUGE party, with usually like 40 people, give or take.

This year we headed up Monday. We planned on leaving bright and early, but after many delays finally got there around 11:15 pm. No traffic- thank goodness.

Tuesday: we hung out with Jaime and her kids, as well as Grandma and Grandpa Gubler and Fred and Sandie. One thing I have to say we look forward to most when we go up to St. George is the many food stops there, we don't have here. One of them is "The Burger Bar". Unfortunately, and to my utter dismay it closed down. But, we indulged in a place very similar, Marv's. Afterward, we spent the day napping, and shopping, and just hanging out.

Wednesday: Myself, Wes, Fred, Ashleigh and her friend Andy headed out and golfed at the St. George golf club. I must say I had the most fun I have ever had golfing there. Mostly because I was actually hitting the ball well. Glory moment was tying Weston on the first hole with a bogey. O don't worry he crushed me on every hole after that and I shot somewhere in the 120s... so I still suck! We got back and the rest of the family was arriving.

Thursday... TURKEY DAY!!!: The boy's had their annual basketball game, while we women folk sat on the side and watched, cheered and mostly talked. And, as always at least one of the "old guys" got hurt... luckily not my "old guy".

disclaimer: you are considered old if you are out of high school basically.

We came home and the feast began! The food was plentiful and as always delicious! And as always, we watched enough college football to reach my quota for the year. We also played some REALLY fun games, that came with excellent prizes.

The games.

Pass the balloon through your knees, last person in line has to blow a bubble and then run to the front. 1 word my friends... hilarious!

Grandpa Gubler and his truck.

The group shot.

Some of the kids (with Amy's help) did a sweet poem reading.

Friday: We had to say good-bye to the Maryland Gubs... boo hoo. Then we headed out and played some laser tag and ate at Capriotti's... our favorite sandwich joint.

That night we headed over to the Tuacahn Theatre to see the live Nativity performance. Loved it! I loved all the Christmas decorations, the theatre, the background. And, I saw my first live Camel... and let me tell you, I had no idea how big those bad boys were. Wow! It was a fun night!

Saturday: Got up nice and early and headed to Zion National Park where we hiked Angels Landing. It was my first time, and I must admit I had nightmares the night before. But, in all honesty... not as bad as I expected. At least this time I did not hyperventilate. Remember this hike at Yosemite. <>

Zion was so beautiful too. The colors, weather, falling leaves... it makes me happy just thinking about it!

You can see where we are going here... to the top of that moutain!

In my humble opinion... the very first switchbacks were the worst... maybe it was the altitude that killed me?

Oh Walters Wiggles.

The Top!

The coolest part of all (besides the view of course) were these GINORMOUS Condors flying around right next to us. Condors, are an endangered species, which look like Vultures. They are ugly as spit, and freaked us out pretty good. But, it was awesome seeing them there.

BTW: Did I mention that a lady fell off and died on the way up Angels Landing the day before... this is a pretty trecherous hike.

To see pictures check it out here. Or to read a little on the hike go here.

(I tried to upload videos, but it isn't working).

We came back home, and ate pizza and watched the BYU vs Utah game. Half the family is for one team while the other half is for the other team. I took a 3 hour nap at this time. :)

That night we went and saw the movie Blindside, and ate at Cafe Rio. Loved, loved, loved the film. And, I highly recommend it.

We left Sunday morning and it took 10 hours to get home. BLAHHHH! It should take a little over 5. Needless to say, pulling into our driveway was very welcomed!

I hope everyone had as nice a Thanksgiving as we did.

What the... What?!

How on Earth did it become December?

Happy Thanksgiving

We spent a wonderful Thanksgiving in St. George.

I have sooo much to be thankful for, and can't think of anything that could make my life at this time any better!

Right now I am sitting next to my husband on the couch, sitting in a warm house, with all the necessities to live a nice, comfortable life. We have great family, wonderful friends, and countless blessings. We have the gospel, and each other for time and all eternity.

Ryan... don't make me use this in 10 years!

Honestly, we made him do this... I don't even remember what we said. But, Ryan Hamilton is always a good sport and loves to make people laugh!

I love this little boy!

Funny Story

Thursday, Wes was invited to his first Lakers game by his friend Michael Briggs. I cannot even tell you the excitement beforehand. You know how Wes and I have the perfect marriage except for the fact he's a Lakers fan right?

Anyways off to the game he went. Had a BLAST! Ran into an old Laker player I haven't even heard of... you'll have to ask him or Mikey. Got pulled over on his way home... no ticket, though the officer did recommend he try drinking after Wes informed him he has NEVER had a drink. And then he got home.

I on the other hand had a low key night. Cleaning, watched a movie, took a bath, ate, played with the dogs, and took a Unisom to help me sleep. (I had a very, very rough night Wed. and never fell asleep until 4:45am, then because of it, slept through my alarm for an hour and missed seminary). I did not want that to happen again, so I took my sleepy drugs! :)

Well, when Wes got home, he did the same thing he always does to inform me he was back when I am asleep. He kisses my cheeks and rubs my back. Well, apparently he kept kissing and kissing and I didn't wake up. In fact, I put my elbow up and nuzzled lower to avoid it. But, he kept kissing me and finally I said very annoyed, "Stop it!" So... he laughed, which apparently annoyed me even more, and I snapped at him, "What are you laughing about?" He said nothing and we went to bed.

The next morning he told me all about that... but the funny thing is.... I don't remember a dang thing. None of that sounds familiar and it makes me sad I was such a brat! But, it is funny! Even funnier, is I woke up and all I could remember was that he laughed and I was annoyed.

Lesson learned: Sleepy pills makes Apey mean to wake up. And, even sub consciously I am annoyed by the Lakers!

Finally Fred!

Ok, so like I said a while ago... Fred's birthday was October 10th.

And, here are some of the fun photos from that day.

Ashleigh and Delanie

Delanie loved sitting in there... well as long as no one took away the golf balls she could suck on. YUCK! :)
